Honduras launched on May 30, 2023 a plan to save Lake Yojoa, its largest freshwater natural reserve, endangered by the aquaculture industry, agricultural activities, deforestation and other environmental damage. "The Honduran people, through me, order the suspension of the environmental operation licenses, of the large-scale industrial aquaculture that is destroying our Lake Yojoa", President Xiomara Castro told her ministers in a ceremony on the shore of the natural setting.
